History of Ice Cream

There are many unproven legends about the creation of ice cream. Here are some examples of these legends:
-King Charles I of England's cook created the treat and served it to him at a party. The King asked (and paid) the cook not to release the recipe. In 1649 King Charles was beheaded and the cook released the recipe.
-Another Myth is that Marco Polo discovered the desert being made on one of his trips to China. He then brought his discovery back to Italy. The myth continues by saying that Catherine de'Medici later took the creation to France when she married Duc d'Orleans in 1533.

Here's the commercial history of ice cream:
- A New Jersey woman, Nancy Johnson created the hand crank freezer, in 1846. It was later patented and called 'Johnson's Paten Ice Cream Freezer'
- Commercial production of ice Cream started in 1851 by Mr. Jacob Fussell, now known as the father of the American ice cream industry.
-In 1926 Clarence Vogt which started the ice cream revolution when he developed the first commercially successful continuous process freezer.
- The first Canadian to start selling ice cream was a Toronto man named Thomas Webb around 1850
-In 1893 William Neilson started his first batch of commercial ice cream in Toronto and is company has been producing ice cream at the same place for nearly 100 years
